Dead Heat by Patricia Briggs
My favorite in the series so far and not just because it takes place in my hometown!
Charles and Anna travel to Scottsdale, AZ to visit an old friend of Charles’s. Joseph Sani and Charles were once inseparable but Charles has had a hard time watching his human friend get older, so he has not visited in many years. As Charles and Anna arrive in Arizona to visit Joseph and his family at their horse ranch, Joseph’s daughter-in-law, Chelsea has just attempted to stab one of her children. Charles and Anna get swept up in an investigation of the murderous fey who has placed a geas on Chelsea. I started reading this series because it was tied in the Mercedes Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. I enjoy the Native American characters that Briggs writes with both Mercy and Charles and in this book, the Sani family as well. We get to know more about Charles through his relationship with the Sani family. In the prior books, I felt that the book was more about Anna and we were looking at Charles purely through her eyes. In this book, I feel like we get to know the inner Charles. |
